“Cancer can take away all of my physical abilities. It cannot touch my mind, it cannot touch my heart, and it cannot touch my soul.” – Jim Valvano

For fifty years I have been involved with basketball as a volunteer and as a coach with Cumberland Valley High School and Capital Area AAU. My biggest supporter for 38 of those years was my wife, Claire Bavaria. In December of 2013, Claire passed away from Pancreatic Cancer. I miss her tremendously and in her honor I am holding the second annual Claire Rose Bavaria Pancreatic Cancer Basketball Fundraiser.

Participants in the fundraiser will obtain sponsors who will make a donation for each foul shot that a participant makes out of 100, or may donate a fixed amount. All the money raised will be donated to the Marc Lustgarten Pancreatic Cancer Foundation (a 501 (c) (3)) where 100% of money donated goes directly to help find a cure for pancreatic cancer.

The main fundraising event will take place September 12th at Cumberland Valley High School, but foul shots can be completed at any location with a basketball hoop.  We encourage coaches and teams to have players complete their foul shots at their local gym or home if they cannot make it to Cumberland Valley on the 12th.

This is an all ages event for players and non-players alike.

Thank you for your support in helping to find a cure for Pancreatic Cancer.

Dennis J. Bavaria
